THIS IS A DEVELOPING STORY
According to brand new reports, Minnesota Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov is wanted by the Russian Government. The situation in Russia is extremely complicated right now, with NHL prospect Ivan Fedotov being arrested for allegedly attempting to get out of having to do military service, but now it is being reported by Fedotov’s agent that Fedotov has been sent to a remote military base in northern Russia. Fedotov was expected to have a spot of the Flyers roster this season after leading team Russia to a silver medal at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. The Flyers only said that “We’re aware of the reports and are investigating the situation.”
The major issue with the Kaprizov case is that it is unknown where he is currently located, in the United States or in Russia. According to Andrew Zadarnowski, Kirill returned to the United States when he heard that Fedotov was arrested, but this is based off of a report, not 100% confirmation.
Michael Russo is saying that a Minnesota Wild source is claiming that Kaprizov is NOT in the United States.
Kirill Kaprizov is apparently wanted by the Russian government for involvement with fraudulent military IDs, reported by Sport-Express. According to Michael Russo, Kaprizov is wanted for “Allegedly buying a military ID in 2017.”
According to a former GM of the Ukraine hockey league, Kirill Kaprizov will have to serve in the Airborne Forces if he is sent to the Russian army.
Zadarnowski is reporting that three current KHL players may face up to 12 years in prison in connection to this militey ID scandal.
Minnesota Wild GM Bill Guerin spoke on the situation, he claims that Kaprizov is still in Russia.
“He’s in Russia, and he’s doing fine… He’s with his friends and with his family.”
He further commented:
We’re not going to push the panic button or anything like that. We’re just trying to gather information right now and find out if this is even credible.
